Should I give a food allowance?

Your helper is entitled to three meals a day. There are two ways to do this.

The most common case is allowing the helper to access your fridge/pantry and allow her to add some items for herself when she buys groceries. You must make sure it is clear what they are allowed to eat. You must also consider the helpers preferences, their religious views and any allergies they may have.

Feel free to save a shelf only for your family if you have some items you do not wish for her to eat.

The second option is to give the helper a food allowance which is usually around $50 a week. You should ensure that they have space to properly store their food.

This decision is up to you and the helper and must be discussed during the interview.

How did we do?
